“ God won’t give us more than we can handle.”
This statement is something I’ve always struggled to understand. Throughout my life, I’ve been pushed to the breaking point more times than I can count, often feeling like I was carrying far more than I could handle. I’m sure many of you can relate to that feeling.
Recently, though, I started reflecting on this idea and came to a realization—it’s not entirely true.
Yes, there’s a scripture that talks about not being tempted beyond what we can bear, but what I’m referring to is life’s overwhelming circumstances—those moments when everything feels like too much to handle. Let me explain.
If God only gave us what we could handle, then why would we need Him? If we had the strength to pick ourselves up and move forward entirely on our own, we wouldn’t have a reason to rely on His presence and strength in our lives.
Here’s a scripture that can offer truth and more understanding on what I mean:
“8 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. 9 Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, 11 as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.”
2 Corinthians 1:8-11
I want you to know that it’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to tell God that you can’t handle it anymore—that you’re weary, overwhelmed, and completely done with it all.
That moment, when you feel like you’re at your breaking point, is often when you’re right on the edge of your breakthrough. Let God be your strength. Surrender it all to Him.
God cares deeply for you, and He knows exactly what you’re going through. I believe He’s simply waiting for us to lift our hands in surrender or fall to our knees and say, “I can’t do this alone—God, I need You!”
He wants to be your strength. Trust Him with it all.
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians: 9, 10
